Kanker en mondgezondheid
In recent years, important studies have shown a link between gum disease and the risk of developing cancer. This points to the relationship between oral health and overall health.
Oral cancer occurs on the lips, cheeks, tongue, palate and throat.
It is one of the most common forms of cancer. Anyone can get it, but the risks are greater for men over the age of 40 who smoke and drink alcohol. Sun exposure increases the risk of lip cancer, as does skin cancer.
There are a number of steps you can take to reduce your risk of oral cancer:
- Visit your dentist at least once a year so your face, neck, lips, and entire mouth can be checked for possible signs of cancer. This applies to everyone, even if you have full dentures and no longer have natural teeth. Early diagnosis increases the chance of successful treatment.
- Do not smoke
- Drink alcohol met mate
- Follow a balanced diet, rich in nutrients
- Limit sun exposure
